In volume 6 of Railfanning with the Bednars, we'll join the Bednar gang as they railfan the beginning of Conrail from April to November of 1976.

The startup of Conrail came with many changes and challenges, but despite this, the crews somehow managed to keep the freight moving.

The change of operations made for an interesting and exciting time on the former northeast railroads.

A wide mix of power from all the railroads as well as loaned foreign power began appearing on run through freights in the Allentown and Bethlehem areas.

Although they focused primarily on the operations in the Lehigh Valley area, the gang made trips to the Harrisburg and Horse Shoe Curve areas to catch the variety of power and non stop trains in those locations.

I have several of the dvd's from the Bednars. All are quite interesting. What sets this one apart is the...bitterness..in some of Mike's commentary. That being said, if U pay close attention to his comments, it becomes understandable. Those of us who were around during the CONRAIL startup may even agree with him, or at least sympathize. As we have come to expect in the railfanning with the Bednars series, we are treated to scenes of nostalgia, from facilities and equipment, for the most part long gone. Bless the boys for preserving what they did and to JP Media for making it available. All of the series that I have are worth the $, and this one is also. Well done guys.

This was my first expierience with the Bednar Boys, and I have say, I'm very glad that I purchased this DVD. Given the date of the footage, the quality is top-notch. Lots of insightful commentary from Mike Bednar, former railroader with Lehigh Valley. Fantastic coverage of fallen flags leading up to the acquisition by Conrail. Great to see all of the old engines and rolling stock - really brings back some nice memories!

Absolutely loved it! The quality and color is great. I really enjoyed the commentary and history. The only thing I wanted was more actual sounds of the locomotives and less music. Even if the original video had no sound I would have preferred a good over dub of locomotive/train sounds than the music. I give it a rating of 4 3/4 stars out of 5!
