This was my first venture into the Kantner series. I'm definitely pleased that I took the plunge on this one. Continuing with the footage of the Anthracite railroad's evolution into Conrail, this dvd contains excellent footage of the "usual suspects" i.e. the Reading, CNJ, Lehigh Valley, the D&H, and EL. But what I was particularly happy to find was film of the Pennsy, featuring 4 and 6 axle units, including the SD35's. A variety of locations is featured, and as is consistent with Pechulis releases, the film-quality is excellent, considering it's age. I highly recommend this release to anyone who is a fallen-flag fan, and misses the old days of exciting eastern US railroading.

Additional remarks by Curt Cruthirds:

In this DVD, the rural scenery is awesome-viaducts, autumn colors, mountains, tunnels... My favorite commentator Mike Bednar is at the mic. There are many locos with one of my favorite paint schemes, Reading yellow and green. Also many Alco Century locos. Lots of power from EL, CNJ, PRR, PC, RDG, C&O, and more. lf you are a fan of Conrail predecessor roads or beautiful scenery, this is a must have for you.

This volume covers familiar areas for the Kantner brothers and in so doing, continues to show the changing railroads of the area and era.
"Dump 'em and jump 'em" an invaluable comment, from Big Mike Bednar, only adds to the historical view, as do all his personal comments. The value of his commentary, from someone who lived it, and knows so much, cannot be underestimated.
