This video is a nice companion to the CP's Kicking Horse Pass video since you see on-board coverage from Field to Lake Louise. Our new SD40-2F wide cab unit, #9020 is the lead diesel on our 3-unit freight eastbound. We watch the train arrive at Field, the crews changed, and off we go inside the cab up the famous Kicking Horse Pass. Most views are straight ahead through the front of the cab as you enjoy the line and pass through both Spiral Tunnels, where you see the rock walls of the inside of the tunnels. There is a bit of drama as one unit dies just as we exit the upper Spiral Tunnel, and we have to make an unscheduled stop. Also we get a brief explanation of the controls by the engineer, and pass a westbound freight in the siding at Divide as we conquer the Summit before going downgrade into Lake Louise Station. The video ends as 9020 leads the train out of Lake Louise.

I enjoyed watching the video because it is a view that few non-railroaders will ever get to see. There is some explaination of the engine's operation and a little drama added in when one of the engines has a problem. It is not a fast ride but an interesting one. I also run this route on Mircosoft's Train Simulator and enjoyed seeing the real life view of what I've seen on the computer.

Additional remarks by M Cooper:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: Good.
DVD Value:: Fair.

The only thing missing was my chair vibrating! You feel like a part of the crew in this most definitely, a cab ride DVD.

Just wish I could have stayed with the crew for the entire run.

DVD Value: Seemed a little high, but not too bad.
Recommend to others? A "Must Have"!

As railfans, most views are from ground level, off railroad property, or on bridges looking down as the trains pass by. While it is enjoyable, it does not really give us the prospective that the head end crew gets. Cab ride videos give us the look that the engineer and conductor have when moving a heavy slow freight. One of the most scenic, intriguing regions of railroading is the Canadian Pacific Railway's crossing of Canada's Rocky Mountains. In this video, it is a cab ride from Field British Columbia to Lake Louise Alberta. This the the spectacular territory of the "Kicking Horse Pass" and the famous Spiral Tunnels. The scenery of the region is 2nd to none, but note that the video is in the early spring. The main ground colour is brown with the white of some patchy snow and white capped mountains, so the only variation in colour is the evergreens. We are able to hear some cab chat, but listen carefully, as it is not always clear. This is not high speed country. It takes over an hour to cover the 20 miles (32km). It is a great video for a cab ride and a welcome to anyone's collection.

This 1992 video (2004 DVD) was the second video in Greg's Western Canada Series, and it is also the longest video in that series. The only runbys are at the beginning with the crew change point at field, and the conclusion at the Lake Louise Restaurant. some highlights include the spiral tunnels which unfortunately the freight isn't long enough to see its tail, as well as the third unit on that Freight Overheating reducing from 6500 horsepower to 3500 horsepower. Plus Engineer Daniel Nadasea examines and talks about the lead locomotive's cab controls.

I was Kinda Disappointed with this Video it doesn't even show the whole line so you don't see Banff Morants Curve and Many more but its a great video not too often during a cab ride video that a SD40-2 overheats coming out of the Spiral tunnels
