Our visit to Rochelle shows big-time, mainline railroading at this Illinois town west of Chicago. Its the hot mainline for Union Pacific trains headed west over the former Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, and the BNSF over the former Burlington Route toward Minneapolis and points west. With two camera crews we won't miss a single train, and in many cases you will see two shots of the same train from different positions. In addition to all the mainline freight action, we also see some track work being done on the diamonds, including some track equipment. An unexpected guest is the Loram Rail Grinder, which goes through on the Union Pacific. We contact Loram and have included some very interesting information about the Loram Rail Grinder operations.

In addition to Rochelle, we take you outside of town to see the new Union Pacific Global 3 under construction, as well as see UP mainline trains go by. We also visit the BNSF at Flagg Center, as well as both depots in Rochelle, and see all the different views of the diamonds which are the focal point of Rochelle

Also included in the first day is a flashback to 10 years ago when we visited Rochelle, and you see C&NW, and BN trains at the diamonds.

This show is contemporary railroading at its finest, with the most modern trains, and locomotives.

The primary program is the first day which is covered for 12 straight hours, and includes 50 trains, not counting multiple shots and track equipment. The DVD covers a complete second day with 50 more trains and is 60 minutes longer.

This video is definitely worth the investment. I would say it has the quality of Pentrex videos in both sound & image. You see plenty of BNSF & UP trains pounding the diamonds in this DVD. It shows the spot they built for us railfans to enjoy watching and video taping the trains and it's absolutely incredible to watch how many trains actually cross these diamonds in a day. I would definitely recommend this DVD for your railroad library.

Additional remarks by Texas Hi-Railer:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Excellent Value!
Recommend to others? Definitely.

Rochelle - Truely a Railfan Hotspot, and Greg Scholl brings the Railroads in this town to life. With more that one person taping throughout the visit, the movie shows the small town way of life when Railroads are so prominent and a few "u-turns" to avoid the trains.
There are plenty of Railrod names including CSX and a Canadian National zebra passing by, along with some older Cascade greens from the BN days. Don't forget the Loran Rail Grinder which also makes an appearance. There is also a trip west of town to Global 3 as it was nearing completion. The movie is well narrated.
Greg Scholl adds to the movie with a visit from "yesterday" as he takes the viewer back 10 years to "before the Park days". Add in some Chicago and Northwestern mainline service.

Hey Crusader. .....should I have said. ..."IMO it's a little dated in the fact that there are no GEVO's....no SD70ACe's....no unit Bakken oil trains....it is not offered in Widescreen or Blu-ray".....? I guess in future reviews from me, you can take my comments with a grain of salt. Oh...BTW.....I did give it FIVE stars!!!

Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.

Just watched all three of my Rochelle, Illinois programs, and of the three, this one would be my least favorite. This program does however, give the viewer a different approach this filming this area. You see the town of Rochelle, itself along with the new Global yard facility, new in May, 2003, the time this program was shot. I was disappointed, that only a few SD90Mac's were seen. A Six minute sequence, shows action back in May, 1993, this segment was enjoyable to watch. A Santa Fe C30-7 is seen, along with a UP C36-7, both in a consist. A Metra E8 is on the point of a rerouted, Amtrak passenger train. Other highlight, a broadside shot of a UP train, with two CN SD60F's in the consist. This show does complement the Pentrex program. They are quite different from each other.
