Continuing our journey across the historic route of the Oregon Short Line, we will explore the Pocatello Subdivision between Montpelier, Idaho and Granger, Wyoming. The classic western backdrop of eastern Idaho and western Wyoming creates a beautiful setting for trains to run through.

This program begins at Montpelier and heads east along the Bear River through mountains and valleys once traveled by pioneers on the Oregon Trail. The rails enter the State of Wyoming near Chausse and leave the Bear River at Leefe for a route over the mountains near the Fossil Butte National Monument. Trains pass the mining towns of Kemmerer and Diamondville as they follow the Hams Fork River to the connection with UP's Overland Route at Granger.

Long stack trains frequent the line, along with manifests, unit soda ash, and grain trains. Locals keep busy working between Montpelier, Kemmerer, and Opal.

UP's fleet of engines include several rebuilt General Electric AC's now classified as AC4400CWM's. Big Boy 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive makes a few appearances as it returns to Cheyenne from California.

Shot in both summer and winter, this is your front-row seat to the action on the Pocatello Subdivision!

In Part 2 of the 7Idea Pocatello Subdivision series, there are not only a big parade of diesels hauling freight through the southeastern part of the Potato State itself, but also a visit from Big Boy 4014 with Heritage Unit 1983 on its eastbound return trip from Roseville California to Cheyenne Wyoming via the Great Salt Lake, Silver Zone Pass, the feather river canyon where the 1941 Alco Built 4-8-8-4 made a visit to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola, & Donner pass, as these scenes were filmed in January & July of 2024, with 2016 coverage in Granger Wyoming on the Green River Subdivision. Locations for part 2 include Montpelier Idaho, Dingle, Harer, Milepost 100 near Pegram, Chausse Siding at the State Line, Cokeville Wyoming, Milepost 68 at Leefe, Sage Wye, Nugget Canyon, Fossil Butte, Fossil, Summit Cut, Tunnel Cut, Moyer Junction, Kemmerer with the Original JC Penny building built in 1902, Diamond Hill, Oakley, Waterfall, Wagon Wheel Road, Opal with a sign that has Aberdeen & Rockfish number 40 from the Valley Railroad in Connecticut, Nutria Siding & ends at Granger. Other road names are shown like Southern Pacific, CSX, & Norfolk Southern. UP 8198 appears in one scene as this is the same diesel that assists 5716 from Cheyenne to Silvis Illinois in November of 2022 while moving centennial unit 6936, 2-10-2 number 5511, & Challenger 3985 for restoration to operating condition.
