The former Southern Pacific Valley and Black Butte subdivisions run from the San Francisco Bay area to Klamath Falls OR crossing some impressive scenery ranging from dense forest to high desert, including a long 2.2% grade, several S curves and a tight horseshoe curve.
<p>The program begins at Redding and the 4348 foot long curved high trestle crossing the Sacramento River, heading north to Dunsmuir, then making a long tortuous climb out of a canyon enroute to Klamath Falls. Highlights include the famous Redding Trestle, the Pitt River double deck bridge crossing Shasta Lake, the Salt Creek Trestle, the Dry Canyon Viaduct, Castle Crag, one of 5 preserved Willamette geared steam locomotives (this one on static display at Railroad Park), Cantara Loop, Sawmill Curve, views of Black Butte and some spectacular views of Mount Shasta. A cab ride across the Redding Trestle is also featured.
<p>Narration is more than sufficient (I really don't need to know the weight and length of trains). Train Symbol markers are included for most trains. The photography is excellent, as good as it gets. The volume is a bit higher than normal. The kids might like this one, there are several fast moving trains and a lot of loud horns. This a Must Have for UP fans and fans of mountain railroading.

a wonderful journey along a majestic railroad... beautiful sceneries, mighty diesel power,perfect shooting,... this dvd has everything anyone can enjoy. I had a great time watching it.

7Idea videos are always good. IMO this on is one of its best.
Aaron, please re-make this in Blue Ray. You'd turn a superb video into a spectacular one. Use same locations and camera angles, even.
