This program covers the following activities that occur in the year 1987:

Southern Pacific Super Bowl Special in January with the train heading on the Sunset Route to Los Angeles.

Union Pacific Super Bowl Special from San Bernardino over Cajon Pass on its way to Council Bluffs. One of the interesting highlights in this segment is that the train crew violated a red signal at Summit and was in the path of an opposing Santa Fe freight train. This resulted in the UP train having to back up to Summit and go around the Santa Fe train which resulted in the train crew later being fired for the violation.

The NRHS Convention covering a period of 5 days. On July 29, the Southern F-Units pulled an inbound convention train from Alexandria, VA to Roanoke where the convention is held. On July 30, N&W 1218 headed from Roanoke to Bluefield, WV with the passenger train and N&W 611 would take the passenger train back to Roanoke. On July 31, there were activities limited to Roanoke only. August 1 was the highlight of the convention as the 1218 and 611 would run side by side to Walton and 1218 would doublehead with 611 back to Roanoke. On August 2, 611 would lead 1218 to Lynchburg and then 1218 would head back to Roanoke alone and the F-Units would have back to Alexandria.

Operation Lifesaver Special that lasted for 4 days from San Francisco, CA to San Diego, CA. Day 1 was from San Francisco to Sacramento via San Jose, Day 2 was from Sacramento to San Bernardino, and Day 3 was from San Bernardino to San Diego. The interesting part was the arrangement and shuffling of the locomotives for each day with Caltrain, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, Santa Fe, and Amtrak units powering the train in each of those days.

Union Pacific 3985 on an excursion from Cheyenne to Laramie, WY.

Chicago & Northwestern action in Fremont, NE.

Fremont & Elkhorn Valley with Steam Locomotive 1702 operating between Fremont and Hooper, NE.

New York, Susquehanna, & Western with train chasing from west of Binghamton, NY to the terminal in Little Ferry, NJ via Campbell Hall and Warwick, NY.

Sherman Hill freights between Cheyenne and Laramie, WY.

Highlights from "Union Pacific 8444 1987".

Highlights from "Cajon Pass Tehachapi Loop".

A segment which includes Santa Fe with a Caterpillar engine out of San Bernardino heading for Barstow, B39-8s on the Southern Pacific near Palm Springs, a UP business car special west of Cheyenne, WY, high-altitude testing on Sherman Hill with LMX B39-8s, a BL2 in Lackawaxen, and Guilford Locomotives at Belden Hill Tunnel near Binghamton, NY.

Unlike the first 3 best of Videos from Pentrex, this was the first time Where Dave Drui does a little more detailed narration in this, compare to the first 3 videos since the Company's Humble Beginnings. Eventually, there are lots of unique steam and diesel power in America, as most of these units in their fallen flag paint as well as the failed attempt merger with Southern Pacific And Santa Fe no longer operate today, as well as the Short-lived Fremont & Elkhorn Valley Railroad in Nebraska, where 1702 now operates on Selected days at North Carolina's Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. Couple of facts that I want to point out in this Now 29-30 Year old videotape: Greg Scholl from Batavia, Ohio was on the 3985 excursion on May 24, 1987 for his UP Steam Volume 1 video in 1989, As well as the 1987 NRHS convention for 2 of his 1990 Tapes: NS Steam Volume 1 with only 611 & 1218, Plus Early Diesels with the last run of the now-retired/sold Southern F-units.
More Fun facts in this Video: In the first 15 minutes of this video documenting the Super Bowl 21 specials on Sunday January 25 & Monday the 26, Only CBS was there to capture the whole game, but not at the visiting transportation machines. Not long After the NYC Giants Defeat the Denver Broncos with a huge defeat of 39-20, The crew members of the Union Pacific Post-Bowl train whether its refusing to stop at a red signal at Summit, or Didn't see the red light due to not enough clear brightness compare to today's technology. Even if the Signal failed, Then the whole train would not only have a Crash with the Santa Fe Freight, but also be on the national media not long after the game was over. Thankfully the crew members were not only under investigation, but they have since been fired from the Railroad due to the passing of a Red Signal. What were the crew members thinking back then? Whose Fault was it? The Post-Superbowl Train or the faulty red signal? Who Knows.

Additional remarks by Steamboy:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: Good.
DVD Value:: Fair.
