We then jump ahead to the late 1970's as Fred Crissey's camera captures scenes of the DM&IR, Reserve Mining and Cliffs Erie. Many different steam locomotives, impressive electrics and diesel engines are abundant in this production. This video features images from a time when iron ore mining was at its peak. Having grown up in this area, I thought this video was superbly done, and brought back great memories of my childhood. The narration was well done, informative, and gave a professional documentary look to the entire presentation. I am extremely happy to endorse this fine piece of our heritage on film, as a premium source of iron ore that played a huge part in winning 2 World Wars, as well as a critical component in the economy in the U.S. in the twentieth century. Thank you for the chance to see images of the "IRON COUNTRY" as I remember it,giant steamers, long ore trains, and the romance of railroading, I now replicate on my model train layout in the basement. I have recommended the video to my fellow modelers for its valuable resource in modeling the area.
