Note: Cover image may differ from actual product

Visit "Espee" locations that were in and around Sacramento, CA in the early 1990s. See Elvas and Stockton Junction with the towers that have long ago been removed.

Watch hours of great, original Southern Pacific power that has been sent to the scrap yard since this material was shot.

Learn much of the history of the SP and the area involved in this video.

The emphasis here is on manifest trains, transfer jobs and locals. We bring the kind of railroading that has been forgotten.

See Davis and Suisun-Fairfield Junction and many trains on the Ione branch. Don't miss the sugar beets to Woodland, California.

This video took years to shoot with nearly every scene in blue skies and with the sun's light on the right side of the train.

The trains shown have been selected with care to tell a story and portray how things once were. After watching this video, you should have a better understanding of what happened to the "Espee" - and why it happened.

See Roseville's original hump yard in action and the parade of trains through Roseville, Antelope and out to the East Valley line, lower Donner Pass and much more.

Are you an Espee fanatic as I ? Longing for dirty tunnel motors or new speed lettered Geep 60's ? Nathan P3's howling as they approach a grade crossing? Then this fine production from Charles Smiley is for you. There is an incredible amount of valuable information about the SP before the Union Pacific "takeover" & the disappearance of the Scarlet & Grey.

Additional remarks by run8anderson:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: Good.
DVD Value: Excellent Value!
Recommend to others? A "Must Have"!

Very interesting and, as usual with Smiley, strong on RR history. Although it has its share of run-bys, which by and large aren't very fast ones, it is strong on yard and near yard activities. Shot in Northern CA only it has lots of maps, especially valuable for those not familiar with CA geography.

Additional remarks by Train Buff:
Narration: Just enough.

Image quality: Good.
DVD Value: Good Value
Recommend to others? Not unless they REALLY were interested in the subject matter.

The video centers around Roseville. The quality of the video is great. Shows most of the hardly covered areas of the SP. Roseville yard scenes were great plus lots of views from trains around Elvas and Stockton towers. Very few wide cabs....but I like that.
