Ecuador's narrow gauge Guayaquil & Quito Railroad is one of the most spectacular railroads in the world. You will start in the lowlands at Duran traveling behind a 2-6-0 to the San Jacinto Festival in Yaguachi. Then you will tackle the Andes Highlands with 2-8-0, #53 battling the 5% grades of the switchbacks on the Devil's Nose. You'll visit the colorful Indian Market at Guamote and ride through the Valley of the Volcanoes to Rio Bamba. Then continue up to the highest point on the railway, at 11,800 ft. Urbena, and see our steam train with 20,509 ft. high Mt. Chimborazo towering above it.

An amazing railroad in crazy scenery. As a railtour there should have been time for multiple edited runby's, but continuity was all over the place. For instance, there were "dozens" of derailments, yet we only saw a few seconds of one of them. A map of where each location was, would be helpful.
Interesting subject spoilt by amateur storyboard and editing.

Additional remarks by nicko:
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: Poor.
DVD Value: Seemed a little high, but not too bad.
Recommend to others? Not unless they REALLY were interested in the subject matter.

The Guayaquil & Quito Railroad has always interested me since I saw it on Making Tracks in the late 90s. Ever since, I have been trying to find DVDs which capture this wonderful and spectacular line, and, of the DVDs I've bought and found, this one is by far and away the best I've come across. Not only does it feature the spectacular Devil's Nose section of the line, but, unlike the Making Tracks series, I goes beyond there, thus opening up more of the route of which I had not experienced before. The price, at a little under £10 in the UK, is spectacular value for the amount of content that is provided, and the image quality and sound quality is outstanding.
Overall, this is a must watch DVD for any fans of the G&Q.

Additional remarks by Ethan Whitford:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Excellent Value!
Recommend to others? A "Must Have"!
