"The Old Main Line - Part 3"continues this superb series that surveys the oldest railroad in the Western Hemisphere. We videotaped as much of the old right of way as possible. We even climbed down off the roadbed to show you some of the one hundred plus old artifacts still in use by the railroad. Maps from the U.S. Geological Survey help you understand where the rails run.
We worked hard to show you the crossings and signals that make up a portion of the modern CSX Cumberland Sub-Division. This DVD starts at MP 81.5, where the tracks cross the Potomac River at Harpers Ferry, WV and continues to MP 124 at HO Tower near Hancock, MD. There's also a special bonus section covering the track work at Cherry Run, WV; as well as the dismantling and moving Miller Tower to Martinsburg, WV.
You'll see CSX freights, Amtrak's Capital Limited as well as the commuter MARC Trains that make their way out to Martinsburg, WV. We'll take you on a survey of the tracks in this eastern area of West Virginia that is as complete as two years of efforts can make it. We show you all the major points of the Old Main Line by following the modern CSX as well as showing you significant artifacts such as stone viaducts 100 years in service to this railroad.
BLUE RIDGE PRODUCTIONS spent a couple years chasing trains to bring you the very best in Railfan video. We climbed mountains and bridges. We hiked along the tracks with heavy equipment to find better ways to show you the sights and sounds of modern railroading. Weíve spent hours and hours editing to bring you these images and clean, exciting stereo sounds of modern railroading. In spite of all this talk of modern railroading, we also tried to find and videotape significant artifacts from the old B&O that are used today to make the CSX right of way solid and serviceable. Weíve talked with CSX employees, retired B&O and CSX employees, historians and railroad historical society members in our attempt to give you insight into how the railroad was built and runs today (no interviews on tape). Come along with us as we ride along The Old Main Line!
