As a New Yorker, this is my FAVORITE New York Movie. And we sure know there are lots and lots of them! Since it's a movie, I won't give away too much. A 1975-era New York City IRT Subway train is hijacked by a band of criminals demanding a million dollars for the return of one-subway cars' passengers. There's so much going on at once here - a hijacking during rush hour, car chases, the search for ex-motormen, one of whom is among the hijackers, and the visit to NYCTA headquarters by dignitaries from the Tokyo Rapid Transit Authority. There's both heavy drama, comedy and some sadness rolled into one, which really makes for a moving film. There's some dramatic scenes at the end when the single subway car speeds through the tunnel until it finally comes to a dead stop. And the ending with Walter Matthau is a true classic!
