The vast Third Avenue Railway System operated virtually all trolley service in Manhattan and The Bronx, New York City, and in Yonkers, Westchester County. Encompassing about 400 miles of track and 1,500 trolleys, the Third Avenue made it possible to ride trolleys all the way from the Battery in lower Manhattan to the northern boundary of Westchester County. From Times Square to rural Yonkers routes, this huge system provided an endless variety of scenery and rolling stock for ordinary travelers and streetcar enthusiasts alike. This fine series offers a nostalgic look at one of the most interesting street railway systems in the northeastern United States. Manhattan lines were sadly abandoned in June, 1947, while the last Yonkers trolleys ran on November 9, 1952.
