On May 17, 1953, Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 3967 pulled an excursion train sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club from Denver, Colorado to Laramie, Wyoming - the first modern UP fantrip. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of that excursion, 4-6-6-4 3985 was cosmetically altered to represent sister Challenger 3967, complete with "elephant ear" smoke lifters and smokebox shield.
The resurrected 3967 made a ferry run from Cheyenne to Denver on May 14th, 1993, followed by a Denver - Laramie roundtrip on the 15th, once again sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club. The locomotive returned to Cheyenne on May 16th.
This program presents multi-camera coverage of these historic trips, complete with thrilling trackside and pacing scenes, our famous locomotive mounted ChoochCam minicams, and a number of interesting interviews. Rare archival photos and film of the original 3967 and other Challengers in action are also included!
