Review of A Day on Soldier Summit DVD Greg Scholl

 4 of 5 (1)
This program was originally released in 1991, and in 2008 we have converted it to DVD. Soldier Summit is the mountain grade south of Salt Lake City, on the former Denver and Rio Grande Railroad mainline between Denver and Salt Lake City. We cover trains on both sides of the grade near Helper, and westward. Rio Grande power dominates, put we see one of the first SP's new script-lettered units leading one eastbound. Also seen are coal trains with helpers, and a caboose. There are super locations such as the canyon near Helper, and of course the summit of Soldier Summit. In 2008 when we converted this to DVD, we added footage to the existing 30 minute program. We added a UTAH RAILWAY coal train, with 4 units on the front and 4 more SD40's as mid-train helpers. This footage was shot in 1995 with a newer camera. There is a nice variety of trains and scenic locations, plus hardworking action in this video.
