Review of BNSFs Abo Canyon Rugged Mountain Railroading in the Heart of New Mexico

 3 of 5 (1)
Enjoy beautiful New Mexico and one of BNSF's (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) busiest single track railroads; the line through rugged Abo Canyon.

You'll start your visit in Belen, New Mexico with a tour of the large yard and a ride through part of it on a new General Electric model Dash 9-44CW locomotive.

Then we head east, seeing the railroad from Belen, through Abo Canyon and it's many bridges, to the summit of the grade at Mountainair. This is a time of transition, with a variety of BNSF, Santa Fe and BN motive power. This may be your last chance to see trains with the classic Santa Fe red warbonnet locomotives on the front of the train.

You'll really enjoy the sounds of the trains growling up the steep mountain grade, sometimes at a crawl! If you like mountain railroading, you're sure to love this program!
