Union Pacificís Caliente Subdivision etches a course across the arid deserts and deep canyons of the American Southwest. It is the centerpiece of UPís Los Angeles & Salt Lake Route running 240 miles between Las Vegas, Nevada and Milford, Utah.

This is a solitary route winding through a remote country that has changed little since the rails were laid in the early 1900ís. Modern high-horsepower diesels pull twelve thousand foot stack trains past the bleached bones of old ghost towns nearly forgotten. Sheer canyon walls echo the deep bark of GEís and throb of EMDís lugging loads of coal, autos, iron ore, containers, trailers, and mixed freight.

Trains tunnel through mighty fortresses of rock, crawl over heavy grades of up to 2%, and sprint through vast deserts on a highway of steel. One of the scenic highlights is Rainbow Canyon near Caliente where the railroad passes beneath vibrant multi-colored cliffs.

Shot in October, 2020 in brilliant 4K from the air, as well as the ground, this is a fantastic look at UPís line through the desert.

Another winner from 7idea Productions! The first 30 mins cover the areas leaving Las Vegas, and weren't of particular interest to me (not saying it's bad; I prefer scenic footage). But once the filming began at the entrance to Rainbow Canyon, that's where it's worth the price of admission! Incredible colors of the canyon walls, lengthy trains, and fantastic videography, make this a must-have disc. To compliment the filming, the use of drone-shot footage really highlights the areas, and is particularly well-done. A 12,000 ft. stack train is panned from high above for several minutes, while it traverses the amazingly colorful canyon. This segment was absolutely my favorite. Without a doubt, this dvd reinforces my belief that 7idea is the leader in filming of contemporary western US railroading. This release is strongly recommended.

Additional remarks by Curt Cruthirds:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Yes.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value: Good Value
Recommend to others? A "Must Have"!
