| The Canadian Pacific Railway was once so much larger than today. Lines that branched out across Southern Ontario eventually were abandoned do to poor revenue. However, some of these lines do survive today as Shortlines. The Orangeville-Brampton Railway is one shortline to survive. Once a line from Streetsville Ontario (Mississauga) ran north to Orangeville (less than 1 hour northwest of Toronto) and on to the Georgian Bay city of Owen Sound, it was abandoned in the early 1990's. Today, Orangeville is the northern terminus. The OBRY today is a strong and healthy railroad, providing freight services to destinations along the line. But also included is the Credit Valley excursion train for people to see the beauty of this magnificent region. North of Brampton Ontario, the line has to climb the Niagara Escrapment, and passes right over the Forks of the Credit which is an area steeped in scenery. To give an idea of the scenery, the lower photo on the jacket cover is at the Forks of the Credit.
North of Orangeville is snowbelt country, so not to be left out is some exciting action of the snowplows. The model railroaders will love this video. there is excellent ideas for serving industries and the shortline action that can be incorporated into a layout. Whether a die hard rail fan, a modeler, a tourist fan, or simply someone with a light interest in railroading and scenery, you will highly enjoy this production by Canada's #1 rail video producer - Rail Innovations. |
