Winding through picturesque coastal redwoods in California's Santa Cruz Mountains, the Roaring Camp & Big Trees Narrow Gauge railroad carries passengers on an unforgettable steam-powered odyssey.
Of the several operational steam locomotives on the Roaring Camp & Big Trees roster, two 3-foot gauge Shays do the bulk of the work. No. 1, the Dixiana, is a 42-ton, two-truck Shay built in 1912. No. 7, the Sonora, is a 60-ton three-truck Shay built in 1911, and once served the Westside Lumber Company.
The Roaring Camp & Big Trees has been in operation since 1963. Founded by the late F. Norman Clark, the railroad gives visitors a sense of what life was like in the old west. Young and old alike can delight in the sound of steam whistles echoing off the mountains.

This 2007 dvd features September 2006 action, as 2 shays are making preparations, pulling coaches, and roll through the giant redwoods. My copy of this one however, is a 2009 upgrade. Why? Because of the shay can ride preview. Also: the main program itself is 71 minutes. The additional 16 minutes contains 2 bonus chapters, and previews of some other titles which are some other volumes of the Roaring camp series, Shasta steam, steam in los gatos, and 2472 in niles canyon.
Additional remarks by Steamboy: Narration:Just enough. Would kids enjoy this?Yes. Image quality:Excellent! DVD Value::Fair. Recommend to others?Definitely.
