For image quality you can't go wrong with Blu-Ray and this one doesn't disappoint in that regard. It is amazing for train videos. But the content and narration was a disappointment. The cost was certainly far less than making a trip there. That said I wondered why some scenes weren't shown like the Benicia Bridge, Franklin Canyon to the east, Niles Canyon, San Francisco commuter station, speeding action along the Peninsula,San Jose, yards, anything to do with the Richmond and Oakland harbors and switching and even Altamont Pass if that would fit the Bay Area scene. Maybe those locations cannot be safely or legally videoed but perhaps mention should have been made. Highball narrations grate on me nowadays even when the content is filled out pretty well by having a book it such as the Route 66 Mother Road production. Will take a closer look next time before making future Highball purchases.

Additional remarks by BELLIOTT:
Narration: Could have used more.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: Excellent!
DVD Value:: Fair.
Recommend to others? Not unless they REALLY were interested in the subject matter.

First of all I have to say is the image quality of this video is excellent!!!(Bluray) I personally have mixed feelings on this video, I for one am not a fan of commuter trains, and my interest is in freight trains. This video has a mix of both, almost a 50/50 mix. Most of the Diesel freight trains are Union Pacific, whereas the commuter trains are Amtrak, Caltrain. Most of the scenery is of course the Bay Area (San Fransisco), which I like. Not your typical California scenery, with desert,cactus,dirt,rocks,etc. The scenery is more rolling hills of green pastures with a mixture of small industry, along with street running. I was however impressed with the camera angles, and subject matter of this video. I also like the closeup shots of the locomotives as they rumbled by. Again I can't help but emphasize the picture quality of this video... Superb!!! I can't comment on the audio, cause my Surround system isn't hooked up. If their were any suggestions to the author of this video, it would be to offer this video in 2 different titles, one for commuter train fans, and another for freight train fans.
