The Milwaukee Road was a Class One railroad that operated until 1986. The Milwaukee had most of its presence in the Midwest with many branch lines and secondary routes. This classic railroad sported many different locomotives on its roster and played an important part in the Midwest economy. Photographer Fred Crissey captured several Midwestern Milwaukee Road lines in the 1970's, and in Volume 1 of The Milwaukee Road, C. Vision features Fred's films in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
You will be amazed when you see 4 SW-1 locomotives pulling a local freight between Rushford and Austin, Minnesota. Also, GP-20's are in charge of a train between Marquette and Mason City, Iowa. Then we capture trains along the Mississippi River from Savanna, Illinois and northward in Iowa. It is on this line that "F" units were charge of freights! Fred also followed the Milwaukee Road from Kansas City, Missouri to Ottumwa, Iowa just after the Soo Line purchased the Milwaukee in 1986. Finally, you will enjoy the action on two Wisconsin Branch Lines from 1978. An SD-9 works the Mineral Point to Janesville train and SD-10 number 555 is in charge of the Sparta to Viroqua train.
Great Milwaukee Road action is here for you to enjoy in C. Vision Productions "The Milwaukee Road, Volume 1."

C-Vision Productions are noted for their style which is limited narration and plenty of natural sound throughout the production. Scenes that are very common to us in present day. This video is not that. The 1st video of vintage railroading of a fallen flag for C-Vision. There is no real connection to current day C-Vision Productions. Filmed by Fred Crissey, this video takes us through the eastern regions of the Milwaukee Road in the 1970's. Basically, it's several locations within the system. When there is no narration, there is music playing that is very appealing and fitting to the railroad action. The narration is quite informative. The scenes covered are also very interesting, filmed in various seasons, in the open country with some lines actually 'grassed over', along the Mississippi River and other places of interest, and even some street running. Branch line operations are common throughout the video. The power lash-ups are vintage with F7's, SW1's, SD40's, etc...and some cascade green BN's and other lines like SOO Line make occasional appearances. A great all around presentation of a line that "once was". Keep in mind that this video was originally filmed in the early 1970's, so the sharpness is a bit duller than we are used to with other productions. But it does not take away from the theme presented. It gives us that historical point of view that we often forget.
A great production that I believe will be enjoyed for years to come. I look forward to seeing more of this type of video from C-Vision.

I loved seeing the old power, but I just wish the photographer would have sprug
for sound since most of it was filmed in the late 70's and early 80's it
would have been great to hear the old motive power.

As an avid Milwaukee Road fan, having grown up in Oconomowoc, I seen the Milwaukee road almost daily. I loved the video, of course almost anything about the MR I like but I wish I could find more on the area between Milwaukee and LaCrosse, WI. But it is a good video and would like to see more of the midwest.

Additional remarks by Reron:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? Maybe.
Image quality: Good.
DVD Value: Seemed a little high, but not too bad.
