Maines Other Main LinesThe Bangor and Aroostook and the St. Lawrence and Atlantic are often an afterthought when it comes to Maine railroading. The Maine Central will never be the same, but BAR and the StL&A maintain the hospitality and charm that the MEC lost when taken over by Guilford. While the StL&A is a fairly new railroad operating the former Grand Trunk line from Portland to Island Pond, VT, the BAR celebrated its 100th anniversary of dedicated service to Maine in 1991.
