This is a very good explanation by Canadian Pacific of an intricate and complex problem in all the aspects of its construction from need to completion. It provides sufficient details of each phase involved in the construction of this project that are valuable to engineers, but it is of interest to the layman as well because it presents the information in simple understandable terms. This is a film that will be archived as a significant portrayal of the most ambitious construction by Canadian Pacific in its long history in the development of transportation in Canada. Someone has had the foresite and found the talent to record this achievement for posterity

Additional remarks by history buff:
Narration: Just enough.
Would kids enjoy this? I doubt it.
Image quality: Good.
DVD Value: Good Value
Recommend to others? Definitely.

Rogers Pass, in the Canadian Rocky Mountains is one of the most beautiful regions in all the world. But it has long been a problem for the railroad. Steep grades made it a impossible for the railroad to conquer this stretch of line efficiently without a pusher station. (See Rail Innovations DVD - Canadian Pacific Rogers Pass). This was time consuming and very expensive. For railfans, it was great, but not for the railroad. In the early 1980's, Canadian Pacific decided to do something about it. A new line with grades that were manageable with out a helper station was necessary and could not wait much longer. So the story begins. We are taken through the entire series of events of the building of a new line over many miles. New bridges and tunnels, along steep embankments, through the rugged forest park land. For start to finish, all the events of the project are on one video. See how the Canadian Pacific dealt with things like the environment and actually hides the exhaust and air building the feeds the long 9+ mile tunnel, the tunnel boring machines, the building of the bridges high above the landscape and so much more. The planning, construction, and final party is all on this video. This video is more that just a railroad video, it's history at it's finest. It's a video that will be long treasured in your collection.
